History of the Chautauqua

In 2008, colleagues in OSU's HDFS Department had the idea of gathering a few national colleagues, bringing them to Oklahoma, and having a small conference where presentation time would be followed by long periods of discussion. We chose the term Chautauqua because we were hosting an "educational opportunity in rural America," similar to the first Chautauquas in the U.S. The original OSU Chautauquas were focused on parenting themes and sponsored by the Department of Human Development and Family Science, but recently evolved to focus on individual and family resilience. Our Chautauqua is now sponsored by the CFR and is also called the Conference on Family Resilience
